OMS Back to School Information

OMS Information for 2021-2022

OMS School Hours:  OMS day runs from 7:45-2:17pm.  First period will begin this year at 7:50.  Dismissal begins at 2:17pm.  Students will not have a homeroom, they will report directly to period 1 at 7:45 where attendance is taken and be dismissed from their last period class daily.

Students should be dropped off in the student drop off area parallel to Carbuncle Rd. (same area for parent pick up).  Please do not block the middle lane of traffic or the bus loop.  Please be mindful of students when coming and going and follow the direction of Mr. Lavelle and the staff outside to assure the safety of our students in the morning.  Students should not be dropped off before 7:10am and will enter under the Oxford Middle School Building sign.   Parent pick up procedures are attached.

  • Bus information-  If your child was not assigned a bus or you have questions about the bus please contact Justin Leduc or Suzanne Kelley at Central office.

    • We DO have a late bus this year and that will start the first day of school.  Students should be picked up by 3:30 if staying for after school activities or they will be asked to take the last bus home.

  • Chromebooks

    • All students who do not have a chromebook will be assigned when they come to school.  Students MAY NOT use personal devices at school this year and will need a school issued chromebook.  If your child will need a school issued chromebook assigned to them please email Mrs. Aromando at jaromando@oxps.org.  Students who already have a chromebook issued to them should bring them to school with them on the first day (fully charged).

  • What will go on the first day?

    • Students will meet their teachers.  Grade 5 should report to the cafeteria and grades 6 and 7 to the Auditorium.  Their teachers will come down to greet them and take them back to the first period.   There will be plenty of staff to direct them as they arrive to school.  Please be advised that there will not be breakfast served the first day.  That will start on Thursday.

    • Please adhere to the drop off and pick up policies (see attached to this email).  Students getting dropped off will enter by the door by Carbuncle under our Oxford Middle School building sign.. They should NOT be dropped off in front of the building.

    • Staff will go over protocols and procedures with students.

    • Staff will assign materials/chromebooks to students.

    • Students will go over and get acclimated to their schedule which will be available in powerschool on or before 3pm on Friday, August 27th.  Be advised that if you are new to the district your child may not have a schedule yet as we are still inputting new registrations, but we will rectify that with them by the first day of school.

    • Staff will set students up with google classroom, online texts and other textbooks, go over their schedule, handbooks, and general school and classroom rules.

    • Mr. Lavelle and Miss Belhumeur will hold class meetings during that first day as well (most likely virtual).

    • Most if not all our communication will go home via email and be placed in our electronic backpack each week.  Please be sure you check the back pack weekly and Miss Belhumeur’s weekly updates for any information and changes during the  year.   The OMS website is https://oms.oxps.org/ .  Please be sure you have an email account listed in Powerschool, otherwise you will not receive Miss Belhumeur’s communications home.

  • Classroom Expectations to discuss with your child ahead of time:

    • Per the Dept. of Education, all students and staff must wear their masks at all times except for scheduled mask breaks and lunch or when outdoors.  Please see the masking policy from the School Committee attached.

    • They will not be having lockers.   Most all of their materials are available online.

    • If they have gym in the first rotation, they should come dressed for gym daily, as they will not be using the locker rooms.

    • They are responsible for bringing their chromebook and materials to and from school daily.  (heavy materials will be left at school and it will not be necessary for them to carry them to and from school each day)

  • Building Access

    • No one other than staff and students will be allowed in the building without an appointment.  All guests must wear masks.

    • If you need to pick up your child please ring our doorbell, and the secretary will assist you and send your child out to you.

    • Tardy students should ring the bell and they will be let in and they should report to the main office.  We are temporarily suspending our tardy policy of parents signing their students in.

    • If you need to drop off materials, lunch, etc. to your child, you will be asked to leave it in the drop off bin provided after telling us who it is for or we will come to the door to get it.

    • This is all for the safety and security of our building, staff and students at this time.
